May Events
@ Pettee Memorial Library
Hi all,
May is almost here, and we are looking forward to some fun events at the library. We are excited to have Karen Horton back to get our community gardens started and to share tips on planting. Also, we’ll be adding a new pollinator garden to the mix this year.
In the upstairs library, we have seed exchange packets available to all that are looking to start a garden or add a little something to your garden. If you have seeds to share, you’ll find some empty packets too. Just be sure to label all seed packets so folks know what they’re getting.
We also are looking forward to having Brian Colleran come in to discuss ecological land development and the effects of Japanese Knotweed. We’ll take a stroll over to Buzzy Park after the talk for practical identification and discussion.
Our Thursday afternoon storytime with Karen Gaynin is coming back this month. We also have Alan Baker every 3rd Monday in house for tech help of any sort. Drop-ins are welcome!
This Sunday we have a special, furry visitor joining us. Walter the therapy dog will be at the library while Dani gives a presentation on Walter’s skills and certification. We will be reading a story with Walter, and kids and adults alike are welcome to stay for this portion of the program too.
Last, but definitely not least… May 30th is National Scone Day. We invite you to stop by and indulge in a free, homemade scone. Also, please enjoy a few random scone facts:
Scones are believed to have originated in Scotland in the early 1500s.
The word “scone” may come from the Dutch word “schoonbrot,” meaning “fine bread.”
Traditionally, scones were made with oats and griddle-baked, not oven-baked.
Neat! Can’t wait to have some schoonbrots together!
See you soon!
